The Young Punx!

The Young Punx are a London-based collective of eclectic electronic musicians, headed up by Hal Ritson and Cameron Saunders. Their fresh and energetic sound that they term "Mashpop and punkstep" is the natural next step in the evolution of mashup music - fusing elements of house, electro, breaks and drum and bass with an eclectic soundclash of popular culture references, rock, disco, 80s pop, classical and jazz to create something at once original and resolutely accessible.

The Young Punx are among the most in demand remixers in the UK. They have remixed artists such as Chicane and Tom Jones, Scissor Sisters, Hound Dogs, Dario G, Tina Turner, Space Cowboy and many more. Their radical motown-meets-house overhaul of the classic Delacey "Hideaway" has gained a reputation as one of the most daring and enjoyable remixes of recent years, and most recently their mix of Norman Cook's "Mighty Dub Katz - Magic Carpet Ride" hit number 1 in the UK club charts.

The Young Punx play live both as DJs and as The Young Punx live band, both of which are renowned for their energetic and entertaining approach.

The full live band includes guitar virtuoso Guthrie Govan (Guitarist Magazine guitarist of the year) and vocals from Tiffany Gore (Medcab / Kraak en Smaak) and Yolanda Quartey (Massive Attack, Bugz in the attic / Deekline / Cuban Brothers). In 2006 they performed for 2 nights at the Nano Mugen Festival in Japan to an audience of 24,000. Highlights of 2007 included performing at the Glastonbury Festival, the XFM Remix at Cargo, and SummerSonic Festival in Tokyo and Osaka. They are currently booked to perform live on The Late Show with David Letterman in May 2008.

The Young Punx have recorded guest mixes for Annie Nightingale, XFM, Kiss FM, Andi Durrant’s Galaxy FM Network and Ministry of Sound radio, and several mixes for Judge Jules. They are residents at Positiva Calling at The Cross in London and have DJed at Radiohead’s aftershow parties in Earl’s Court.

The Young Punx are kind enough to share some of their production and remix work with us for free, so please download the music below and enjoy!

The Young Punx - Fire (Phonat remix)

:: a high energy electro house club tune with some fun vocal work.

The Young Punx - Rockall (Medcab remix)

:: a funky electro house track.

The Young Punx - Wake Up, Make Up, Bring It Up, Shake Up (John B remix)

:: a really fun remix by the legendary John B showcasing his signature sound by twisting the original into a hands in the air electrostep anthem!

The Young Punx - Interplanetary (Openair remix)

:: a little more mellow than the other tracks, but still a fun song about UFOs. The main lyric is, "Calling occupants of Interplanetary craft."

The Young Punx - Dance With Someone Else (Phunk Investigation Club mix)

:: a great club tune, this one is a house banger. You'll recognize the lyrics!

Be sure to visit The Young Punx main page for more free music, videos, some great pictures of the group and more!

La Mode - Part 2!

After posting up their mix, La Mode was kind enough to also send over some links for some free tracks. Follow the links below for more La Mode mp3 action:

La Mode - Salami (zShare download link) :: Salami is an instrumental electro track with a rock edge that all the indie/dance punk/electro folks should like.

Digitalism - Magnets (La Mode's Space Pirate mix) (zShare download link) :: La Mode takes the original and raises the energy level with their signature electro rockin' sound. They extend the breakdown with the effected vocals, then bring the beat back in with an altered synth line which makes for a nice change up.

Bloc Party - The Prayer (La Mode's Sunday School remix) (zShare download link) :: This remix is probably my favorite by La Mode. I am hit or miss when it comes to Bloc Party, but this track works well with the lead singer's vocals, and they did some cool chopping of the vocals. Another song that will work great on the indie/dance punk/electro dance floors.

Pj The Viking - Raining Blows (La Mode's Puddle Re-Splash) (Mediafire download link) :: This one is another instrumental track. Some fun synth sounds and a decent beat, but this track didn't do much for me. I'm sure some of you will definitely be into it.

Be sure to also visit La Mode on their MySpace page.

Junkie XL - Booming Back At You

Junkie XL's new full-length artist album 'Booming Back At You' was released today on Nettwerk Records. The album consists of 12 tracks that fit nicely in the current electro sound.

The album starts off with "Booming Right At You", a funky electro house track that includes a sample from Stetsasonic and reminds me of the Freestylers.

Next up is "Cities In Dust" featuring vocals from Lauren Rocket. This song was originally written and performed by Siouxsie & The Banshees. Junkie XL's take is full on electro with a punk / rock edge to it. I think people that like Chicks on Speed will really dig this song. See the end of this post for a couple of videos of Junkie XL working on remixes of this song.

The fourth song is called "Stratosphere". It is an instrumental track, that has a nice electro-pop feeling to it, but could also work well mixed into a progressive house set.

Following "Stratosphere" is "Mad Pursuit". "Mad Pursuit" features vocals from Electrocute and is a very cool downtempo track with a slight electro twist. This song has a definite Thievery Corp. / Portishead vibe with a little more of an electro sound to it. This would make a great song on a soundtrack for a spy movie - James Bond style.

"More" is the next song, and has already had a lot of great remixes released as two separate EPs - 'More' and 'More More'. Remixers include Matthew Dekay, Tocadisco, Tommie Sunshine, and Kraak & Smaak.

The next song that got my attention was the ninth song on the disc, "Clash". It has a mellow piano intro, then jumps into a nice 4/4 beat with a fun party feel. No real vocals on this track, but it feels almost like a modern B-52s song.

The second to the last song is "No Way". This song features vocals from Lauren Rocket, and reminds me of Gwen Stefani in a way. A fun electro-pop track with crossover / pop appeal.

Finally, the disc ends with "Not Enough". This song features vocals from Willoughby and Nicole Morier. Another great electro-pop song that should appeal to fans of Depeche Mode, Fischerspooner and The Faint.

The full tracklisting for 'Booming Back At You' is:

1) Booming Right At You
2) Cities In Dust
3) You Make Me Feel So Good
4) Stratosphere
5) Mad Pursuit
6) More
7) 1967 Poem
8) Zage
9) Clash
10) New Toy
11) No Way
12) Not Enough

Kill The Noise!

Kill the Noise are an electro / techno production team from Rochester, NY. Tight production, creative, original, and innovative ideas begin to describe the sound Kill The Noise is known for. While some compositions growl with angry, distorted synth lines and glitchy sample edits, others lean towards the more playful, funkier side with addictive melodic hooks and lyrics, complimenting additional productions of the more techno-inspired realm of pumping side-chained beats and infectious rhythms.

This sound has resonated throughout the blogosphere and indie/ electronic dance communities, and has been embraced by both old and new generations of artists and enthusiasts. Commanding attention from its listeners, Kill The Noise has earned support from a diverse selection of notable players in the global electronic dance music community. Names such as Chromeo, Ocelot, Franki Chan of Iheartcomix, LA Riots, Scion Automotive Company, Treasure Fingers, Klever, Craze, Le Castle Vania, and Juxtapoz Magazine, just to name a few. Whether it is an original composition or remix, the music stands out from the pack as something special to both the average and avid listeners.

2008 is already shaping up to be huge for Kill The Noise with a truckload of new material in the pipelines including various remixes and a debut EP of original material entitled "KILL KILL KILL". All in addition to a growling list of high-profile performances. Kill The Noise is on a mission to prove it's name to be true... Kill the noise, kill the production, kill the scene, and become the most influential production outfit on the block.

Please enjoy two of their remixes:

Chromeo - Call Me Up (Kill The Noise remix)
