Junkie XL - Booming Back At You

Junkie XL's new full-length artist album 'Booming Back At You' was released today on Nettwerk Records. The album consists of 12 tracks that fit nicely in the current electro sound.

The album starts off with "Booming Right At You", a funky electro house track that includes a sample from Stetsasonic and reminds me of the Freestylers.

Next up is "Cities In Dust" featuring vocals from Lauren Rocket. This song was originally written and performed by Siouxsie & The Banshees. Junkie XL's take is full on electro with a punk / rock edge to it. I think people that like Chicks on Speed will really dig this song. See the end of this post for a couple of videos of Junkie XL working on remixes of this song.

The fourth song is called "Stratosphere". It is an instrumental track, that has a nice electro-pop feeling to it, but could also work well mixed into a progressive house set.

Following "Stratosphere" is "Mad Pursuit". "Mad Pursuit" features vocals from Electrocute and is a very cool downtempo track with a slight electro twist. This song has a definite Thievery Corp. / Portishead vibe with a little more of an electro sound to it. This would make a great song on a soundtrack for a spy movie - James Bond style.

"More" is the next song, and has already had a lot of great remixes released as two separate EPs - 'More' and 'More More'. Remixers include Matthew Dekay, Tocadisco, Tommie Sunshine, and Kraak & Smaak.

The next song that got my attention was the ninth song on the disc, "Clash". It has a mellow piano intro, then jumps into a nice 4/4 beat with a fun party feel. No real vocals on this track, but it feels almost like a modern B-52s song.

The second to the last song is "No Way". This song features vocals from Lauren Rocket, and reminds me of Gwen Stefani in a way. A fun electro-pop track with crossover / pop appeal.

Finally, the disc ends with "Not Enough". This song features vocals from Willoughby and Nicole Morier. Another great electro-pop song that should appeal to fans of Depeche Mode, Fischerspooner and The Faint.
